Go Figure - 27th February 2001

Dwight Yorke's hat-trick against Arsenal was completed in the 23rd minute - the quickest ever in the Premier League - outpacing Ian Marshall's effort by four minutes It is Yorke's third for United - he also notched one whilst with Aston Villa - but only United's 11th in the Premiership where they, somewhat surprisingly, trail Blackburn, Liverpool and Arsenal. Teddy Sheringham took only 11 minutes to score three goals against Southampton earlier in the year, but his first goal was not until the stroke of half-time

Yorke's doubling of his annual tally heightens the possibility that five players from the team could reach double figures by year-end. Currently Sheringham 14, Solskjaer, Cole both 9 and Beckham 8 are ahead of him. If achieved, this would be a premiership first eclipsing the 1995/6 record also held by United of four double-digit scorers: Cantona, Cole, Giggs and Scholes.

Gary Neville assisted on three of the goals, a first such hat-trick for any United defender

The drubbing represented the first time that Arsenal had conceded more than four goals in a Premier League Game. Sheffield United and QPR now hold this honour. The result equals the worst defeat for the Gunners against United, who also managed six of the best a couple of times in the 1950's

United are unbeaten over the past ten games - a joint top this season - during which run they have scored at least one goal, also a current first Go Figure Archive

Go Figure    24th–25th February
Bradford City 1–2 West Ham United
In yet another loss, Bradford City at least managed to score after 572 goal-less minutes: the worst run in the league this season by more than 100 minutes, and sixth on the all time list
Coventry City 2–2 Charlton Athletic
8 is the magic number. For Coventry games without a victory, for Charlton matches undefeated
Derby County 1–0 Aston Villa
Since hitting 4th place in mid-November, Villa have only garnered 11 points in 14 games, second only in futility to Bradford City. Their current six game winless run at home is a team-record in the Premiership
Ipswich Town 2–0 Everton
Mark Burchill, on-loan from Celtic, became only the eleventh player to record a multiple assist game in his premiership debut
Leicester City 2–0 Sunderland
Dean Sturridge scored in consecutive league games for the first time in more than three years
Manchester United 6–1 Arsenal
Dwight Yorke returns with a vengeance as United set yet more records. More...
Middlesbrough 0–1 Southampton
The team with a perennial bad away record have lost just five away all season a total bettered only by Man Utd and Leeds. In only one of the previous eight Premiership seasons have the Saints failed to reach the 10 game plateau
Newcastle 0–1 Manchester City
In spite of large crowds and an expensive line-up, Newcastle's season is falling apart. The 19 games without a clean sheet leads the league this season and is only two shy of their worst ever Premier League sequence
Tottenham Hotspur 1–2 Leeds United
With his first 20 point season (7 goals/13 assists), Lee Bowyer is moving into the elite of English football
