Go Figure - 18th December 2000

Liverpool's victory at Old Trafford not only gave the championship race a spice of interest but also provided some closure for the history books

It was United's first home loss in 37 games - one shy of their all-time record - but well clear of the next best premiership run of Arsenal's (30)

The run of scoring at home ends at a Premiership record 40 games, well clear of Chelsea's 27 matches. Eleven teams have failed to reach the 10 game mark, including ever-present, Coventry City

The sequence of 13 home games in which they scored two or more goals just pips Blackburn Rovers, who ran off 12 games to start their championship-winning 1994/5 season. Coventry again fare poorly with a 4 game maximum, surprisingly matched by Chelsea

David Beckham failed to score or pick up an assist for the third game running. In 20 of the previous 21 games he had registered at least one point

Liverpool snapped an eight-match winless run against United, but the latter remain the only team they average less than a point a game against

Althoigh Rebrov continues to steal the glory, Stephen Clemence has been the most pleasant surprise for Spurs. With his 10th assist of the season in only eleven appearances, he ranks second only to Beckham in the league
Aston Villa 2–2 Manchester City
Lee Hendrie joined Patrik Vieira as the only two players to have been dismissed twice this season. The only player to suffer the fate in 1992/3 was Neville Southall, whilst the worst Premiership season was 1997/8 when eight players were given their marching orders at least twice
Derby County 1–0 Coventry City
A debut Premiership referee but for once no new players for Derby. However, they still lead the league with 26 different players starting for them so far this year
Everton 1–1 West Ham United
Most of the weekend plaudits relate to his sportsmanship but, with another assist, Di Canio has now contributed to a, league-leading, two-thirds of all of his team's goals this season
Ipswich Town 3–1 Southampton
Alun Armstrong became the 29th player to score two or more goals as a substitute and the first Ipswich player with that honour
Leeds United 2–0 Sunderland
In spite of their victory, Leeds still only have five players who have scored for them this season. Viduka continues to account for 50% of their goal output
Leicester City 3–1 Charlton Athletic
Third straight game Charlton have playeed a top-5 team and the third straight game they have conceded three goals

A victory at Old Trafford which not only enlivens the title race but also is one for the history books More...
