Go Figure - 3rd April 2001

Even with the distraction of an upcoming European encounter, United will not be happy at conceding the double to arch-rivals Liverpool. It was hardly the way to celebtrate Keane's 250th and Butt and Gary Neville's 200th Premiership appearance.

None of the 33 teams to have appeared in the premiership have avoided the double against them. However, as the table shows United still have the fewest occurrences even of teams with much more limited time in the top flight. Ipswich hold the single season record, suffering 10 in 1994/5, whilst Watford's only appearance in the Premiership to date was tarnished by eight doubles against.

Prior to the Liverpool game, the only two teams to have inflicted the double on United were Arsenal in 1997/8 and Chelsea in 1993/4. Interestingly, Chelsea are also one of only three teams (Ipswich and Swindon being the others) not to have had Manchester United triumph over them twice in a single season.

Southampton have suffered the double at least once against all the other ever-present Premiership teams, whilst Coventry have been United's whipping boys in this regard with six doubles already and a seventh in nine seasons likely when they meet again later this month
