Darren Anderton staggered rather than sprinted to the 100 assist mark. His fifth assist in 21 games this season is matched, or bettered, by five colleagues
However, as only the fifth player to achieve the feat (behind Beckham, Giggs, McManaman and Sheringham) and still the leader with 48 of the dead-ball variety, it deserves recognition. He also leads the league all-time with contributions on 15 goals from indirect free-kicks and the thirty-one team-mates he has helped to score goals has only been exceeded by Le Tissier for a one-club player. Kevin Scott and Moussa Saib's only Premiership goals came courtesy of Anderton assists
However, the feeling persists that it could have been so much better. He became the first to register 50 assists when he set Sheringham up for a goal against Norwich in April 1995, and only Eric Cantona required fewer games, 96 to 103, to achieve the feat. The second fifty took 142 games as he has been overtaken by the likes of Beckham and Giggs playing on a superior team and with fewer injuries. Indeed, in the past seven seasons, Anderton has only once breached the 10 assist barrier, a level that more than 20 players achieve each year
By far the most grateful recipient of his work has been Teddy Sheringham as he helped fashion 25 of his goals during the striker's first term with the team. Only the McManaman/Fowler combination for Liverpool can better that. The magic has not been repeated on Sheringham's return as they have yet to hitch up for a goal this season, other than once when Sheringham acted as the provider

Chelsea 24 Southampton This result was said to typify Chelsea's
failings against lesser clubs in contrast to their sucess against the top teams. However, of the eight other Premership
ever-presents, Chelsea have a winning record against the four clubs that have scored fewer points than them
but do not boast a winning record against any of the top four; Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds

Derby County 01 Fulham Fulham have kept the opposition goalless in five of their last seven away games
|
Leeds United 30 West Ham United After a lacklustre start to the season Mark Viduka has hit a rich vein of form with five goals and seven assists in the last seven matches
|
Liverpool 11 Bolton Wanderers It is surprising that Litamen (five wins in his six starts)
cannot force his way into the first eleven of a club
which has failed to score three goals in ten games- the worst such run for Liverpool since the beginning of the 1999/00 season
|
Manchester United 31 Newcastle United Paul Scholes pips Yorke to become the sixth 50-goal scorer for United. Only Arsenal (3) and Liverpool(2) can also boast multiple members of that club
|
Middlesbrough 10 Everton Five losses on the trot does not bode well
for manager, Walter Smith. Everton have suffered such a losing in three previous Premiership campaigns and
on each occasion the manager - Howard Kendall (twice) and Joe Royle - was not at the helm by the start of the new season

Sunderland 11 Aston Villa It is little surprise that Sunderland are ranked bottom of the strike power when leading scorer
Phillips has now missed four penalties in the past two seasons
